the happiest hours

Confession...I am a serious sucker for Happy Hour. Those magical moments between 5 - 7 p.m. are some of the best I have encountered, and I find them terribly hard to resist. Here are a few reasons why...#1 it means I'm done with work for the day. I love my job and my company is awesome (weekly dodge ball games? a CEO who brings ice cream around when the weather turns warm? being told to read InStyle for an hour and call it "research?" well okay, if you insist!), but I quite enjoy when the day shifts from work to play and I get to go indulge in a cocktail across the street at one of my favorite bars, Six Seven.

Reason #2 on my "why I can't say no to happy hour" list would be asparagus fries, which are lightly breaded, tempura-style spears accompanied by a miso dipping sauce. My goodness are they amazing! Snag a plate (or two), plus your drink of choice (I recommend the Apple of My Eye - ciroc vodka, st. germain & cloudy apple juice - or the Moscow Mule), and you are set. And #3? Well, you can't go too wrong with anything that's delicious, involves craft cocktails and costs less than a basic manicure.

On this particular day I decided to do a little desk to drink-time switcheroo by nixing the cardigan, adding some black pumps, and sneaking off to the restroom for some red lipstick and a touch of eyeliner.

The dress, however, remained. Because not much can top an LBD that involves the still quite current high-contrast trend, plus a mod geo dot design. I plucked it off a sale rack at Nordstrom last year and it's the perfect transition piece...classy, yet casual enough for the office, and perfectly suitable for date night. Especially when topped with a bow-adorned belt. You see my boyfriend was meeting me after work, and sometimes a gal just wants to impress her guy...and then ask him to pretty please take a few dozen photos of her posing on sofas and such in the hotel lobby...and then in front of the windows...and maybe once more out near the fireplace.
