I've always been a writer at heart, and was very lucky two years ago when I stumbled upon an amazing job as a women's apparel copywriter at a main Seattle retailer. It suited my passions perfectly - writing AND fashion? Yes please! I began reading style blogs for inspiration, and soon they became a favorite part of my morning routine. It wasn't long before the thought of having my own little place where I could share my personal take on style seemed like the ideal creative endeavor. And so here we are!
Is there a meaning behind the name West Mercer?
West Mercer is an actual street in Seattle, which runs right through my neighborhood, Lower Queen Anne, and past our City Center. To me, the name West Mercer is a great representation of a place that is stylish, dynamic, current, artistic and, above all else, home. That's exactly what I wanted my blog to be and so, the name stuck.
What sort of camera equipment do you use?
My wonderful boyfriend shoots my photos, so I'll let him take it from here...
We are using a Canon EOS Rebel T2i. Our go to lens is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, which gives some awesome subject isolation at a killer price. If we are in a situation that the 50mm prime just won't work we might be using a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, or Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II, but so far our favorite results have all been with that 50mm!
So you live in Seattle...what are your favorite spots?
Oh my...how much time do you plan to spend on this page? To keep things short 'n' sweet I'll just list my Top 10.
- Molly Moon's Ice Cream. One of the first gourmet ice cream spots in the city.
- The Ballard Farmer's Market. It's huge. And all the bars are open.
- Triumph Bar. Best bread pudding in the city! Awesome wine selection too.
- Cascina Spinasse. The Italian food here is to die for.
- Uptown Espresso. My favorite coffee spot. Try the vanilla soy latte with vanilla soy.
- Mercer Street Books. A great used book store right in my neighborhood.
- Six Seven at The Edgewater Hotel. Tempura asparagus fries...need I say more?
- Kerry Park. Best view of the Seattle skyline.
- The Olympic Sculpture Park. A beautiful fusion of nature and art.
- Gasworks Park. Another awesome view of Seattle. Plenty of space to read and relax.
