In my experience, a lazy afternoon that will soon turn into an evening spent cheering on your best friend's country band requires a little pick-me-up to keep everything going. Please note the Starbucks Refresher pictured above. You know I mean business (i.e. 4-hours of dancing in heels...) when I get a venti.

I think the same pick-me-up logic can be applied to style as well. Take this basic tee and cardigan duo for example. Before I left the house I decided to add a favorite statement necklace to the mix and suddenly my outfit was on a whole different level. 

Other perfect pick-me-ups? Sparkly drop earrings, printed scarves, colorful heels or anything neon. 

It's like back when Emeril Lagasse had that cooking show and every so often he'd throw a little "essence" into a dish and...BAM! You see, statement necklaces are a lot like that special spice you add to spaghetti sauce...full-disclosure, I may be blogging and Food Network watching at the same time. Quite the combination. I recommend it if you're ever wishing to pepper your posts with culinary references. See what I just did there? Pepper your posts?
