Happy Memorial day friends! Summer has (unofficially) started! Time to bust out the BBQ's, corn on the cob holders and croquet sets. Or if you're like me and living in Seattle...time to continue using our umbrellas and water-resistant rain gear!
We experienced some summer-worthy sun over the past few weeks, but this weekend got a bit blustery, so I'm going to spend some time today pretending that it's as warm as the morning I decided to stop at my favorite neighborhood bakery for a pastry - wearing a twirl-worthy skirt of course. Because what goes better with a treat than some tulle?
I've been a fan of DownEast Basics ever since I wrote for one of their zulily events during my first month as a copywriter. But despite my love for their sweet and feminine apparel I did not make a purchase until just a few months ago when I spied this gossamer beauty. Because can any girl really resist a ballerina-inspired tulle skirt?
I challenge you to answer that question with anything but "nope!"
However, after hitting that pretty little "purchase" button in my shopping cart I began to wonder exactly how versatile a tulle skirt could be. Would this end up as one of those "favorite" pieces that only gets worn once or twice, but that I lovingly gaze at daily, wishing that I owned "the perfect top" that would pair, well, perfectly with its hushed ivory hue?
Friends, I am happy to report that tulle skirts complement quite a few wonderful things! I've worn mine with chambray and wedges to the Ballard farmer's market, and plan to rock it with simple tanks, tees and maybe even a cute baseball cap this summer to create a sort of All-American-girl-meets-fairy-godmother ensemble. It's all over the runways this season, or so I hear.
On this particular day it was joined by a sweet and inspiring sweater. My leopard belt provided a fun pop of print, and my new Zara sandals also made an appearance. Those sandals, by the way, just so happen to be on sale right now. Speaking of sales...check back later to see a list of my favorites for Memorial Day. Just about every retailer is dropping prices, and now is the time to stock up for those sunny days ahead!
